TOKYO, Feb. 19 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks ended sharply higher Monday with investors taking their cues from the Dow Jones Industrial Average's recent winning steak, while a halt in the yen's rise against the U.S. dollar also boosted the mood and lifted exporter issues.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average added 428.96 points, or 1.97 percent, from Friday to close the day at 22,149.21.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, gained 37.78 points, or 2.17 percent higher to close at 1,775.15.

The majority of industry categories advanced, with wholesale, consumer finance and real estate-linked issues comprising those that gained the most by the close of play.
