KAMPALA, March 1 (Xinhua) -- Uganda Cranes will host Malawi's national team, The Flames in an international friendly on March 24.

Humphrey Mandu, the assistant Chief Executive Officer of the Federation of Uganda Football Associations (Fufa) told Xinhua in an interview on Thursday that the match will be played during the FIFA international friendly window.

"We have agreed in principle with the Football Association of Malawi (FAM) to have this match take place in Kampala as both teams need to keep busy and get the players active," said Mandu.

He also said that the federation is trying to arrange for another international friendly match in March although discussions are still on-going with two federations in Africa.

Uganda Cranes who have maintained top spot in the FIFA rankings for teams in the Council for East and Central African Football Associations (CECAFA) region last featured in the 2018 Total Africa Nations Championship (CHAN) in Morocco.

Head coach Sebastien Desabre told Xinhua that he will be excited to have two international friendly games for the team. "Since I am still a new coach for Uganda, there are many things I need to keep learning and most of them will come with playing more games," said the French born coach who joined on December 28 last year.

Desabre said he needs to keep spotting more talent in the Uganda Premier League that he can test in the national team.

"I believe Uganda has abundant talent and I have already spotted some players who I think fit in my philosophy," added the coach.

Since Desabre taking over as Uganda Cranes coach, the team managed to draw 1-1 against Guinea before losing 1-0 to Congo Brazzaville in the two games played as build-ups ahead of the CHAN competition.

At the CHAN event in Morocco, Uganda Cranes lost 3-1 to Zambia, fell 1-0 to Namibia before settling for a goalless draw against Cote d'Ivoire.
