JAKARTA, April, 16 (Xinhua) -- An earthquake measuring 6.4 magnitude on the Richter scale jolted off the west coast of Indonesia's North Maluku province on Monday morning, the Indonesian Meteorological, Climatological and Geophysical Agency said, but no casualties or damage have been reported so far.

The quake struck at 02:30 Jakarta time. The epicenter was 85 km Northwest of North Maluku's capital Ternate with a depth of 10 km under the sea.

The United States Geological Survey (USGS) put the magnitude at 5.9 with a depth of 36.5 km.

The Indonesian Meteorological and Geophysics Agency said there was no potential for tsunami.

Indonesia sits on the so-called Pacific "Ring of Fire" where several tectonic plates meet, making it vulnerable to frequent earthquakes.
