SRINAGAR, Indian-controlled Kashmir, April 26 (Xinhua) -- At least two policemen and a civilian were wounded Thursday after militants carried out a grenade attack in restive Indian-controlled Kashmir, police said.

The grenade was hurled at police station in Kulgam district, about 71 km south of Srinagar city, the summer capital of Indian-controlled Kashmir.

"Militants this evening hurled a grenade towards police station Kulgam, which exploded with a bang resulting in wounding two policemen and a civilian," a police officer posted in the town told Xinhua. "The wounded personnel were immediately rushed to hospital for treatment."

Soon after the attack, police and paramilitary forces rushed to the spot and launched a manhunt to nab the attackers.

So far, no militant outfit has claimed responsibility of the attack.

On Wednesday militants killed a political leader and wounded two policemen serving as his security guards in adjacent Pulwama district.

A guerilla war is going on between militants and Indian troops stationed in Indian-controlled Kashmir since 1989. The gunfight between the two sides takes place intermittently across the region.

Kashmir, the Himalayan region divided between India and Pakistan, is claimed by both in full. Since their independence from Britain, the two countries have fought three wars, two exclusively over Kashmir.
