Tokyo stocks close higher on solid domestic earnings, eased geopolitical concerns

TOKYO, May 11 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks closed higher Friday on a solid lead from Wall Street overnight, robust domestic earnings and easing geopolitical concerns after U.S. President Donald Trump announced he will meet with the Democratic People's Republic of Korea's leader Kim Jong Un next month.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average ended up 261.30 points, or 1.16 percent, from Thursday to close the day at 22,758.48.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, added 17.34 points, or 0.98 percent, to finish at 1,794.96.

Precision instrument, electric appliance and machinery-oriented issues comprised those that gained the most by the close of play.
