Tokyo stocks open marginally higher on Nasdaq's record high, yen's retreat

TOKYO, June 21 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks opened marginally higher Thursday as investor sentiment was bolstered by the Nasdaq index's record high overnight on Wall Street, while the yen's retreat against the U.S. dollar also brightened the market mood.

As of 9:15 a.m., the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average added 36.98 points, or 0.16 percent, from Wednesday to 22,592.41.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, gained 2.66 points, or 0.15 percent, at 1,755.41.

Machinery, glass and ceramics product, and electric appliance-linked issues comprised those that gained the most in the opening minutes after the morning bell.
