KAMPALA, June 23 (Xinhua) -- Ugandan police have arrested a drug trafficker with 114 pellets of narcotics at Entebbe International Airport, a spokesperson said on Saturday.

Luke Owoyesigire, the Kampala Metropolitan police spokesperson, said in a statement that police at the airport arrested 24-year-old Rodrigues Fagundez Albelys Doralys with the drugs suspected to be cocaine after being subjected to scan screening.

"She was subjected to a scan which revealed she had drugs in her stomach. She was then put under observation and passed out 114 pellets," said Owoyesigire.

The spokesperson said Fagundez, who traveled from Brazil's Sao Paulo en-route to Kenya's capital Nairobi, is currently being detained at Entebbe Airport police station, about 40 km south of the capital Kampala, pending arraignment before court next week.

The suspect will be charged with unlawful possession of narcotic drugs contrary to Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (Control) Act 2016, Owoyesigire said.

Ugandan aviation police have in the past arrested several foreign nationals trying to smuggle narcotic drugs through Entebbe International Airport.

The East African country is seen as a transit point for drug traffickers from South America and Southeast Asia.
