PHNOM PENH, June 26 (Xinhua) -- Cambodian immigration police on Tuesday confiscated 120 kilos of ecstasy during a raid on a passenger bus traveling from Laos into Cambodia, and arrested three Cambodian suspects, according to a General Department of Immigration report.

The raid was made at the Trapaing Kreal international border checkpoint on the Cambodia-Laos border and 120 packs of the illicit drug weighing 120 kilos were found hidden in the bus, the report said.

The haul was the largest-ever seizure of the illicit drug in the Southeast Asian nation.

In June 2015, Cambodia arrested four suspects with nearly 55 kilos of heroin and methamphetamine in a single case, and in May 2017, the country arrested a man with about 50 kilos of illicit drugs during a raid in Phnom Penh.

Cambodia has no death sentence for drug traffickers. Under its law, anyone who traffics more than 80 grams of illicit drug will be facing life imprisonment.

Deputy Prime Minister Ke Kim Yan, chairman of the National Authority for Combating Drugs, said in a speech during the International Day against Drug on Tuesday that the authorities had arrested 5,702 drug suspects and seized 93.2 kilos of illicit drugs in the first five months of 2018.

He added that the country had found 9,364 drug addicts during the January-May period this year, and 7,056, or 75 percent, of them had received drug quit treatment.
