HANOI, July 9 (Xinhua) -- A national park in Vietnam's central highlands province has used advanced technology for management, resulting in fewer illegal logging cases and forest fires.

Chu Mom Ray National Park in Kon Tum province has used Geographic Information System (GIS) technology for surveillance and control of its forest resources via a database of satellite images from the GIS, and its forest rangers have been provided with smartphones and apps to timely detect forest-related violations and wildfires, local daily newspaper Vietnam News reported on Monday.

Since the beginning of this year, the number of illegal logging cases in the 56,000-hectare national park has fallen nearly 93 percent against the same period last year. Meanwhile, other violations of the Law on Forest Protection and Development have declined by 57 percent.
