JERUSALEM, Feb. 6 (Xinhua) -- Israeli forces killed on Tuesday morning a Palestinian suspected of carrying out a shooting attack that killed an Israeli settler rabbi in January.

Ahmad Jarrar was the ringleader of a cell that carried out a drive-by shooting attack, killing Rabbi Raziel Shevah, a resident of the illegal outpost of Havat Gilad and a father of six, on January 9, according to a statement released by the Shin Bet security service.

Jarrar, 22, also personally participated in the attack, the Shin Bet said. His killing came after a month-long manhunt.

The pre-dawn raid involved military, police and Shin Bet forces.

The Shin Bet said that investigations indicate that Jarrar's cell was involved in previous attempts to carry out attacks and in the planning of additional attacks.

Defense Minister Avigdor Liberman hailed the Israeli forces. He vowed that Israel will catch also Abd Al Karim Assi, a 19-year-old Palestinian who carried out a fatal stabbing attack near a West Bank settlement, killing an Israeli passerby.

Assi fled the scene and was still at large on Tuesday morning.

On Saturday, during attempts to arrest Jarrar, Israeli troops killed a 19-year-old Palestinian youth, identified by Palestinian medical sources as Ahmed Samir Abu Obeid.

The Israeli military said Abu Obeid was killed during fire exchange that ensued during the raid.
