SARAJEVO, March 28 (Xinhua) -- Bosnia and Herzegovina's (BiH) soccer player Haris Medunjanin has officially decided to retire from the national team here on Wednesday, he said on his official social media account Wednesday.

A long-time player for the BiH national soccer team, Medunjanin wrote on his Facebook page that he has been thinking about this difficult decision for a long time and that young players should be given a chance to play.

"We have to think about the future as well, there are lots of good players here. The fact that we did not qualify for the World Cup is a sign that, older players like myself, should give younger players a chance and I wish them success," Medunjanin wrote in his farewell message.

Medunjanin, 33, played nine years for the BiH national soccer team, for a total of 61 matches, and scored nine goals. Currently, he plays as a midfielder in the American Philadelphia Union. Prior to that, he played for Israeli side Maccabi Tel Aviv F.C., Turkish outfit Gaziantepspor Kulubu and Spanish side Deportivo La Coruna.

The Football Association of BiH thanked Medunjanin for everything he did for the team, and wished him success in furthering his professional career.
