Officials from Greater Mekong Sub-region discuss economic cooperation

HANOI, March 29 (Xinhua) -- Senior officials from the six-member Greater Mekong Sub-region (GMS) gathered here Thursday to review achievements and shortcomings of cooperation programs over the past 25 years and prepare for the GMS leaders' meeting.

At the GMS senior officials' meeting in the Vietnam's capital, the delegates were to focus their discussions on contents of the Hanoi Action Plan 2018-2022 and the Regional Investment Framework 2022, which are expected to be adopted by GMS leaders on Saturday.

The Hanoi Action Plan calls for an expansion of three economic corridors in the GMS to forge connectivity between its members as well as within rural and urban centers, and the Regional Investment Framework will roll out the list of over 200 investment and technical assistance projects in the sub-region.

At the summit themed "Leveraging 25 years of Cooperation, Building an Integrated, Sustainable and Prosperous GMS," leaders from Cambodia, Laos, Thailand, Vietnam, Myanmar and China are also expected to touch upon new strategies for transport, agriculture, tourism and environment.

A GMS business summit will be held for the first time on Friday to connect firms from GMS member countries. Over 200 enterprises have registered to attend the business summit.

The GMS is aimed at enhancing regional cooperation and integration for inclusive and sustainable development in the sub-region.
