BERLIN, April 5 (Xinhua) -- Kerem Demirbay has put pen to paper on a contract extension ahead of schedule, the Bundesliga club announced in an official statement on Thursday.

The 24-year-old central midfielder stays with the "TSG" after penning an extension until June 2022.

"I am pleased to be part of the development the club has taken since a few years. Something special has evolved here and I am convinced that so much is possible," Demirbay told the club's official homepage.

Demirbay's career took a boost as well as he banned to Hamburg second team in 2013 before he was loaned to lower league sides Kaiserslautern and Fortuna Dusseldorf.

In the summer 2016, Demirbay joined top-flight club Hoffenheim where he provided eight goals and 10 assists in 43 league appearances. His performance in the Bundesliga earned him a call up for Germany's national team in 2017.

"It is a strong signal. It underlines that we are consistently pursuing our ambitious and successful path of the recent years. The development of Demirbay since his arrival in 2016 is outstanding in every way," Hoffenheim's director of professional football Alexander Rosen said.

Seventh-placed Hoffenheim encounter sixth-placed Eintracht Hoffenheim at the 29th round in Bundesliga on Sunday. Enditem
