NEW YORK, July 3 (Xinhua) -- U.S. stocks opened higher on Tuesday, following the previous session's upbeat trading mood.

Shortly after the opening bell, the Dow Jones Industrial Average surged 126.48 points, or 0.52 percent, to 24,433.66. The S&P 500 increased 9.17 points, or 0.34 percent, to 2,735.88. The Nasdaq Composite Index climbed 20.07 points, or 0.27 percent, to 7,587.76.

Trading volumes are expected to be lower than normal due to the Fourth of July holiday which falls on Wednesday.

U.S. stocks reversed their early losses to end higher on Monday as investor sentiment was lifted by better-than-expected U.S. manufacturing data.

However, the uncertainty over tariffs plan was still hanging over markets, which might cap the gains, experts pointed out.

At Monday's closing, the Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 35.77 points, or 0.15 percent, to 24,307.18. The S&P 500 was up 8.34 points, or 0.31 percent, to 2,726.71. The Nasdaq Composite Index increased 57.38 points, or 0.76 percent, to 7,567.69. Enditem
