NEW DELHI, Aug. 21 (Xinhua) -- Indian police Tuesday said they have arrested 15 people for thrashing and parading a naked woman in Bihar state over the murder of a youth, an incident that has triggered massive outrage.

"The youth's body was found lying on railway tracks in the state's Bhojpur district Monday morning, following which local residents beat up the woman suspecting her hand in the murder. They also stripped her and paraded her in the locality," a police official said.

Though the woman has been arrested for further investigation, 15 people were also held for the brutal treatment meted out to her, he said, adding that some 300 people have been booked for the crime. "Efforts are on to nab all of them," the official said.

Local TV channels reported that some local residents had gone on a rampage Monday soon after the youth's body was found, setting on fire some shops and torching passing vehicles, leading to the suspension of eight cops.

"A probe is on and no one will be spared. The local police chief is personally investigating the case. Action will also be taken against the suspended cops, some of whom failed to prevent the violence, after the youth's body was found," another police official said.
