JAKARTA, Aug. 30 (Xinhua) -- Indonesian authorities have stated their intention to ensure tight security during the closing ceremony of the ongoing Asian Games, amid considerable clamor for tickets to watch the event.

While 52,000 tickets for the ceremony have already sold out, more fans are expected to try to attend, said the Games' organizing committee chairman Erick Thohir.

According to national police chief General Tito Karnavian, over 9,000 police and military personnel will be dispatched to cover the closing ceremony of the continental sporting tournament.

"We will also deploy firefighters and ambulances in addition to the armed forces, so that if an unexpected event occurs it will be dealt with swiftly and efficiently," said Karnavian.

The general added that threats and obstacles include Jakarta's perennial traffic congestion and attacks from militants, saying that security personnel will pay particular attention to these two areas.

"Policemen, military personnel and volunteers in the security task force will focus particularly on combating terrorism and alleviating traffic congestion," he added.

The closing ceremony is set to be held in the Gelora Bung Karno stadium on Sunday, with the proceedings relayed on a big screen outside the stadium for those who fail to purchase tickets.

According to the organizing committee, the ceremony will display the full diversity of countries and regions in Asia, with performances from some of the continent's best-known artists and singers to celebrate and honor the athletes participating in the Games.
