China win gold medal in World Rowing Championships in Bulgaria

SOFIA, Sept. 14 (Xinhua) -- China won the gold medal of the lightweight women's quadruple sculls at the World Rowing Championships in Bulgaria's city of Plovdiv on Friday.

The Chinese quartet of Wu Qiang, Liang Guoru, Chen Fang and Pan Dandan recorded a time of 06:28.32, followed by Denmark with 06:33.33, and Germany with 06:34.25.

"We are very excited winning the gold medal here today," Pan said.

"It was a very successful season for the team and we are very happy with our performance," she said.

Nearly 950 rowers from 62 countries and regions are participating in the eight-day regatta in Plovdiv's Maritza River Water Sports Centre, which kicked off on Sunday.

They are competing in 14 Olympic, six international and nine para-rowing boat classes. Enditem
