KABUL, Oct. 4 (Xinhua) -- Zalmay Khalilzad, the newly appointed United States advisor to Afghanistan and U.S. special envoy for Afghanistan peace and reconciliation, would make his first visit to Afghanistan, Pakistan, and three countries of the Middle East, reported a local media Thursday.

In a latest effort to bring about peace and accelerate Afghan reconciliation process, leading a delegation, Khalilzad would take 10 days to visit Afghanistan, Pakistan, United Arab Emirates (UAE), Qatar and Saudi Arabia, according to private Pajhwok Afghan News.

"Khalilzad's mission is to coordinate and lead U.S. efforts to bring the Taliban to the negotiating table. He will do so in close coordination with the Afghan government and other stakeholders, exploring how best to reach a negotiated settlement to the conflict," the report said.
