Indonesian athlete breaks Asian long jump record at Asian Para Games

JAKARTA, Oct. 8 (Xinhua) -- Indonesian athlete Rica Oktavia broke Asian record in long jump during the Asian Para Games here on Monday.

Oktavia jumped 5.25 meters in category of women T20 at the Gelora Bung Karno sport stadium, upgrading the old Asian record of 5.20 meters made by Malaysian athlete Siti Noor during the Paralympic in 2016 taking place in Brazil, Indonesian sport ministry said in a statement.

"Rica Octavia secured the third gold for Indonesia, defeating opponents from Malaysia and Japan. Her jump passed the previous record. The jump is extraordinary," the ministry said.

The second position at the sport was placed by Siti Noor Radiah, who jumped 5.18 meters.

Japanese athlete Sakai Sonomi posted the third place with a jump of 5.02 meters.

Going forward, the Indonesian athlete eyes participation on Paralympic 2020 set to be played in Tokyo of Japan.

A total of 2,800 athletes and 1,800 officials from 41 nations and regions are participating in the Asian Para Games 2018 in Indonesia's capital of Jakarta which kicked off on October and is set to end on October 13.

The athletes with disabilities will compete in 18 sports, including badminton, basketball, table tennis, swimming, chess, cycling and fencing.
