MAIMANA, Afghanistan, Oct. 16 (Xinhua) -- One civilian lost his life and eight others sustained injures as a car ran over a mine in Afghanistan's northern Faryab province on Monday, provincial police spokesman Abdul Karim Yurash said Tuesday.

The incident took place Monday afternoon when a mine planted by the armed insurgents struck a Toyota Corolla car on a road linking provincial capital Maimana to Andkhoi district, leaving one commuter dead and injuring eight others, some in critical condition.

Women and children were also among the victims, the official added.

The official pointed finger at the Taliban militants for planting the mine but the outfit has yet to claim responsibility.
