NEW DELHI, Oct. 24 (Xinhua) -- At least six people have been killed in clashes between two communities over local body polls in the western Indian state of Gujarat, police said Wednesday.

The clashes took place at Chhasra village in the state's Kutch district Tuesday night.

According to police, some members of a community held a grudge against the other after facing defeat in local polls.

"An argument broke out and soon people from both sides suddenly attacked each other with sharp weapons, in which six people died," local police chief M.S. Bharada told the media.

Two people who sustained injuries in the incident have been hospitalized, he added.

"A probe has been ordered into the incident and a huge police force has been deployed in the village to prevent any untoward incident," another police official said.
