Tokyo stocks plummet in morning following Wall Street's overnight selloff

TOKYO, Oct. 25 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks plummeted Thursday morning, with the benchmark Nikkei stock index dropping over 3 percent at one point, as investors offloaded issues following an overnight rout on Wall Street.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average tumbled 618.30 points, or 2.80 percent, from Wednesday to 21,472.88.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, dropped 38.30 points, or 2.32 percent, at 1,613.77.

All industry categories in the main section retreated into negative territory, with service, electric appliance and nonferrous metal-oriented issues comprising those that declined the most by the morning break.
