18 militants killed in airstrikes in central Afghanistan

GHAZNI, Afghanistan, Feb. 11 (Xinhua) -- Up to 18 militants have been confirmed dead and eight others injured as fighting aircrafts targeted Taliban hideouts elsewhere in the relatively troubled Ghazni province in Afghanistan, an army statement said here on Monday.

According to the statement, the fighting aircrafts targeted Taliban hideouts in Aband district leaving five insurgents dead, killing 12 more militants in Andar district and another one was killed in Shahbaz area outside provincial capital the Ghazni city.

Eight more militants have been injured during the sorties, the statement said.

A Taliban group commander identified as Saifullah Asad is also among those killed in the strikes, the statement further said.

Taliban militants haven't commented.
