TOKYO, March 5 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks opened lower Tuesday following Wall Street's overnight retreat, while investors opted to take profits after the Nikkei's three-month closing high a day earlier.

As of 9:15 a.m., the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average dropped 89.74 points, or 0.41 percent, from Monday to 21,732.30.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, fell 9.70 points, or 0.60 percent, to 1,617.89.

Mining, miscellaneous product, and iron and steel-linked issues comprised those that declined the most in the opening minutes after the morning bell.
