Myanmar, Bangladesh vow to wipe out terrorists active along border

NAY PYI TAW, April 9 (Xinhua) -- Myanmar and Bangladesh vowed on Tuesday to wipe out terrorist groups active along the two countries' border, while exchanging information between border guard police of the two sides.

Senior officials of border guard forces of Myanmar and Bangladesh made the joint statement following the end of their two-day meeting, the 6th senior officials meeting of Myanmar-Bangladesh border guard forces, held in Myanmar's capital Nay Pyi Taw.

Reiterating that it would never tolerate and accept any terrorist group to use its soil against any country, Bangladesh border guard force would remain alert to combat infiltrating terrorists, said the statement.

The statement pledged to suppress illegal drug trade and prevent illegal border crossing as well as conducting exchange of prisoners who had served their prison terms in respective countries.

The statement also called for conducting regular flag meetings at battalion commander level and camp level and holding a first meeting between border liaison offices of the two countries, exchange of news and information related to security of the border region and continued joint patrol along the two borders.

The statement set October for the holding of the next 7th meeting of the senior offiials of the border guard forces of the two countries in Dhaka, capital of Bangladesh.

The meeting was co-chaired by Chief of Myanmar Police Force General Staff Police Brig-Gen Myo Than and visiting Bangladesh Border Guards Director-General Maj-Gen Md Shafeenul Islam.
