BEIRUT, April 21 (Xinhua) -- Lebanese President Michel Aoun said Sunday that Lebanon is in crisis and it cannot wait longer for a solution, local media reported.

"Lebanon is in crisis and we cannot afford to wait longer for a solution. We hope to get over with this crisis as soon as possible," Aoun was quoted as saying by the National News Agency.

Aoun said that the crisis is very difficult but it is not hard to overcome.

"We started with our electricity plan which will be followed by the 2019 budget and then comes the economic and environment strategies," he said.

The president said that the government will study very well the budget and it will not impose taxes on the poor.

"We know who to impose taxes on," he said.

The Lebanese government is expected to convene this week to discuss the 2019 budget which will be transferred to the parliament later on for approval.

The government aims to take measures that would reduce the budget deficit and bolster a flagging economy reeling under 85 billion U.S. dollars in public debt.
