ISLAMABAD, June 22 (Xinhua) -- Emir of Qatar Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani arrived in Pakistan on Saturday on a two-day state visit on the invitation of Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan for talks on bilateral matters, officials from the prime minister's office and the foreign ministry said.

Imran Khan welcomed the Emir of Qatar on his arrival at a military base near the capital Islamabad, the prime minister's office said.

A 21-gun salute boomed out when the Qatari leader alighted from his special aircraft. Two children attired in traditional Pakistani dresses presented bouquets to the guest.

The Emir of Qatar will hold talks with the prime minister and Pakistani President Arif Alvi to explore ways to boost cooperation in various fields, officials said.

Foreign Ministry spokesman Mohammad Faisal said that the Qatari Emir is accompanied by a high-level delegation comprising key ministers and senior officials to discuss ways and means of building a robust and mutually beneficial economic partnership. The Qatari Emir had earlier visited Pakistan in March 2015.

During the visit, Pakistan and Qatar are expected to sign several agreements on enhanced bilateral cooperation in different areas.
