DUBAI, July 31 (Xinhua) -- The United Arab Emirates (UAE) Foreign Ministry on Wednesday said results of the sixth joint meeting with Iran on maritime affairs were "satisfying," the official news agency WAM reported.

"The meeting is continuation of the previous meetings of the joint committee which was formed to discuss routine maritime issues, including maritime connections, illegal entries and smuggling, fishermen and shared borders," WAM quoted Salem Mohammed Al Zaabi, director of the ministry's International Security Cooperation Department, as saying.

Zaabi said the meeting aimed to ensure the safety of UAE's citizens, including the country's fishermen.

He stressed the importance of these meetings to address routine maritime issues between the two countries.

Meanwhile, Iran's news agency IRNA said Iranian and Emirati officials have agreed to bolster bilateral maritime security cooperation during the meeting held in Tehran, the first such talks since 2003 which come amid tensions in the Gulf region.
