TEHRAN, Nov. 4 (Xinhua) -- Iran said on Monday that Iranian President Hassan Rouhani has sent letters to Saudi Arabia's king for cooperation on regional peace, Tasnim news agency reported.

"The theme of the letters has been regional peace and stability," Ali Rabiee, government spokesman, was quoted as saying.

"We believe multiple bilateral ties could be shaped in the region, and the U.S. pressures should not cause a distance between the neighbors," Rabiee added.

On Saturday, the Iranian Foreign Ministry announced that Iran had forwarded its Hormuz peace plan to the regional states.

Rouhani said earlier that the Hormuz Peace Initiative aims at establishing durable peace in the region.

Iran insists that extra-regional powers cannot bring peace to the region as it could be established by regional states' cooperation.
